Players prepare for uncertainty as Esports Nations Cup moves to 2027

The Esports Nations Cup has been postponed to 2027 due to its international scale and regional uncertainty. Players and coaches had already prepared for the inaugural tournament in Riyadh.

League of Legends player Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun was among those affected. Selected for Team USA’s support role, he had expected to balance the tournament with his Sentinels commitments and wedding preparations. The postponement reduces that scheduling pressure, although huhi said he still hopes to represent the United States in 2027. Other selected players described disappointment while using the time for training and personal plans.

The delay creates uncertainty for coaches and national-team rosters. Romania coach Razvan Nistor said players could retire, lose form, or become unavailable before the rescheduled event, potentially requiring new selections. Questions also remain over whether teams and players selected for 2026 will retain their places in 2027. Further details are expected as organizers reassess the competition.
